Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a term used to describe a basket of procedures outside the traditional litigation process,
usually entered into voluntarily by parties to a dispute in an attempt to resolve it.
"Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbours to compromise whenever you can.
Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser - in fees, expenses and waste of time"
- Abraham Lincoln
Family mediation is a way of helping people resolve issues relating to parenting, separation, property division, support and/or divorce.
A trained family mediator helps people identify issues and work out their own solutions in a safe and comfortable setting. Mediation is cost effective and flexible.
Family law arbitration is an alternate way for families to settle disputes. Rather than going to court and having a judge decide a case, the family members agree to allow a trained, third-party decision maker to decide the outcome of their disagreement.
Arbitration is binding on both parties.
